Farmageddon

Dear Esteemed Readers,

Over the last few years, many of you have followed my Art Nun adventures as an artiste and part-time “farm girl at heart,” who fled big-city Seattle in 2023, to settle permanently in the small but expanding agricultural town of Tieton. As part of this new expansion program, the town has begun extensive reconstruction of the streets right outside my east and south windows.

The good news is that when this project is completed sometime this autumn, my loft will look out on a central median planted with visually softening, green columnar trees and flowering shrubs. Traffic will slow down. New curbs and sidewalks will be poured. And crumbling potholes will only be dim memories.

But for now, the not-so-good news is that starting at 7 a.m., every weekday will be a work day for the road crew until the project is completed.

To survive the noise, dust, vibration, dump truck loading, loud beeping of backhoes, aggressive pile-driving, and the clearing of left-behind debris (all only a few feet from our Tieton loft), my husband David and I have decided to protect our sanity by temporarily relocating to a little studio house in Yakima over the summer and autumn months.

I’ll be taking some retreat/vacation time away from writing my first-Saturday-of-the-month publications during this time. But along the way, I’ll be preparing several posts in advance to include in my ongoing “Music is my Friend” series of background stories about my musical evolution and expansion. After the road project is complete, you’ll be receiving new posts to enjoy over the autumn and early winter months, perhaps accompanied by a few informal postcards from time to time, to help keep you up to date.

I extend my deepest appreciation to my husband David, a meticulous master of technical skills, who translates my wild-eyed Art Nun inspirations to the cybersphere with generosity, patience, and good humor.
