An Equinox Greeting

Dear Esteemed Readers,

In 2023, I moved from Seattle, Washington to my new home in Tieton, Washington and had to leave behind the beautiful magnolia tree that had lived in my front yard for decades. A few weeks ago, I received a photo from my previous next-door neighbor in Seattle, which showed my tree as its lovely purple blossoms were again beginning to unfurl. Seeing the photo brought back treasured memories of my tree and the special parties I used to host to celebrate her comforting presence in my life. These parties always included music, delicious food, bubbly beverages, poetry readings, and a special “tree motif” cake.

In a previous post in this journal, titled “Tree Party,” I documented my personal tree party stories together with examples of additional tree celebrations from many cultures throughout the world. I hope that this colorful summary, honoring spring and the equinox, will inspire you to create your own version of a tree party that will bring ongoing beauty and joy to your life.

This post was published on the 2026 spring equinox, March 20, 7:46 a.m., Pacific Daylight Time.

With all best wishes,
